Dear Friends,

We hope you enjoyed GM Ivan Sokolov’s camp last week and learned a lot! The files from his camp will be available in chesstempo for those who attended the camp by the end of the week.

A reminder that Swayams’ class will start again at 9 AM UK this Thursday.

If you are a yearly member and you’ve added kct academy as a coach in Chesstempo, please make sure that you also send us your username. We don’t accept any usernames that we do not know. There are a lot of requests from people we don’t know in Chesstempo right now. If you are one of them, reach out to us to set up your account.

Our in-person event is getting closer and closer! It will be in Roquetas de Mar, Spain, in May. Both the camp and the tournament are open to everyone, members and non-members.

The camp will start on the 3rd and end on the 9th. Your trainers will be GM Jacob Aagaard, GM Julen Arizmendi and GM Renier Castellanos. Check out our website for all the details!

After the camp we will have an international open. It will begin on the 10th. It will have 9 rounds and it will be possible to get norms. Jacob, Renier and Julen will also play in the tournament. Full regulations are available on our website.

You can register for the camp, tournament or both by filling in this form.

If you have any questions, need info about travel of anything else, don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected]

Lots of members are playing. A new National medal comes from Raluca, who played in the Romanian Championship last week and finished 3rd.

Malcolm played the Isle of Wight tournament. He did very well and won the Over 55 prize in the U2000 tournament. Malcolm is working hard and submitting homework every week. We are incredibly happy and proud of his result! Here is his full message about the tournament; we hope it will inspire everyone to keep putting in the work:
“Played 11 games over 6 days at last week’s Isle of Wight tournament. Very well organized event which I can thoroughly recommend, it includes a 9 round Masters tournament which was too strong for me!

Scored 3/6 in the U2000 tournament. Then 3.5/5 in the weekend Open tournament, finishing joint 5th and winning the Over 55 prize!.

Scoring 3.5/4 in the Open against opponents averaging 180 points higher than me was fantastic. I was also completely winning the game I drew and my only defeat was to the winner of the Open who has played for Wales at the Olympiad and was rated 399 points above me!

Although I’m 64 years old (very notable for a chess player), I don’t believe I’ve ever played better than last week or had a better understanding of chess. I’m approaching 4 years with the Academy and there were a number of times over the week where my thoughts were driven by points I’ve learned along the way so thank you!”

Jacob has been playing the FIDE World Senior Team Championship 2025 Category O50+ with the Danish team.

Sam is playing the Prague Festival. He started with a win today, against the talented Ediz Gurel from Turkey.

The FIDE World Junior is under way in Montenegro. Trisha is playing in the Girls’ section and Yahli in the Open. Fingers crossed for both of them!

Have you been playing any tournaments? We want to know!  Let us know on the forum or on social media.
