I actually just tried to open a new thread in the “Ask” question and got an “access denied” error when clicking on “create Topic”. Is it normal I still see locks next to most categories (Ask, Share, Discuss etc…)? The only exceptions are News, welcome to our forum! and free samples.

The locks are because those groups are not open to everyone, but you should be able to open and read them. Not being able to open a new thread might have to do with the system not recognizing you as an active member because you haven’t posted much. But I might’ve fixed that; can you try opening a new topic now?

Yes it works perfectly now, thank you! (If it helps for future occurences, the fix seems simultaneous with earning the badge “member”)

Yes, that’s right. Normally the system automatically gives the badge after a few interactions.
